Edwin Starkweather, aka Split, is our leader, the second leader of the team. He has teleportation powers, which let him teleport anywhere he can see, as well as teleport small items he can see to him. I've been trying to get him to let me test how much he can bring with him when he teleports, but he's always "too busy." Seems like Ed is working almost every second he's awake; in fact, I'm not sure when he sleeps. Besides all the work he does leading the team, Edwin also works as a waiter at a pretty nice restaurant. His powers come in handy there, though if asked he absolutely denies that he uses his powers so obviously. Ed's a really nervous guy, he tries to hide it, but I (a telepath) know he's really worried he'll mess up as leader. But I think he's doing a great job so far.

History

Ed's parents are Laura and Peter Starkweather; famous heroes, who raised him to follow in their footsteps. The Starkweathers didn't have a consistent team for most of Edwin's childhood, so they moved around a lot, serving as fill-in members for whatever team needed it. Because of this, Edwin grew up homeschooled and surrounded by adult heroes, which really shaped his worldview. When he was around ten they moved to Louisiana (he couldn't remember what town, but I'm sure Maria can tell me), where they stayed for two years. While they were there he met and befriended Maria Waters, bonding over testing his powers, which had just started to develop. The Starkweathers moved eventually, and they lost touch.

After Louisiana the Starkweathers settled in Frostfield, and Ed was, despite much arguing by him that it wasn't necessary, enrolled in public school (I sympathize with him greatly). He was bullied a lot there, and was too worried about revealing his powers to fight back.* Lucky for him, Calvin Pierce was going to the same school. Their parents were part of the same team, and introduced them. From then on, Calvin made sure no one messed with Ed. Calvin's harshness and ambition were initially intimidating to Ed, but the benefits of their friendship were great enough that Edwin stuck by him anyways, and they came to be close friends.

When Calvin started the team, Ed was his first choice to invite to join. And of course, Edwin agreed immediately. "He was always Cal's right hand man, if the captain needed anything, he went to Ed," says Maria. When it came to building up the team, Edwin may have played an even bigger role than Calvin did; he tracked down Oliver, and invited Maria to join after she came to town. After Calvin... passed... Ed was the obvious choice for a new leader, even having been set up for the job by Calvin. He hesitantly accepted, and he's been our leader ever since.

*while his identity is common knowledge among us "in the know," the Starkweathers have been very successful at maintaining secret identities; some of the last heroes to maintain the tradition.
